Jet Boat Science Experiment for Kids

We have seen children playing with toy boats. It is one of their favorite activities and they really enjoy playing with them. But children will be delighted to know that it is quite possible to build a jet boat at home. Jet boat science experiment is an amazing experiment which involves building a balloon-powered jet boat. This balloon-powered jet boat is ideal for racing in bathtubs and pools. There is no doubt that the kids will love this experiment.

Model Jet Boat Science Experiment :

In order to perform Jet boat science experiment, you have to follow certain steps. All you need is a plastic pipe elbow (half inch diameter), rubber band, balloon and two Styrofoam food trays (5-1/2 by 8-inch). Take a plastic pipe elbow and thread the nut on it. Make a hole in the bottom of Styrofoam tray. Now push the non-threaded end of the elbow through this hole. Wrap the rubber band several times around the elbow underneath the tray. This will help in securing the elbow. From the second Styrofoam tray, you can cut a rudder.

Cut a slit in the stern of the boat and then insert this rudder through it. Take a balloon and stretch it over the threaded end of elbow. Your balloon-powered jet boat is ready. To make this boat functional, you will have to blow air into the elbow. This will inflate the balloon. To prevent air from escaping, you can use your finger to block the end of the pipe. Now gently place the boat in water and release it. You will be amazed to see how quickly it zips away, just like a real jet boat. You might have seen that this jet boat science experiment is pretty simple to conduct and does not require much effort at all. Children can have fun trying this experiment with their friends at home.
